I so wished I had learned other languages 50 years ago as a child. Nonetheless, I love Japan and her people. I am always amazed with the way they respond especially in crises. This is fascinating because I've watched this man's video of the tsunami so many times. The aerial photo at 1:46 finally made it clear where all this occurred. There are two other videos shot from this same location; one from a person on the hill where they had both evacuated to, and the other by a man who began at a building on the corner of the second intersection down from the red circle (which was destroyed), then got to safety in the concrete building on the right of the intersection above that. All three of these videos show this same intersection.
3:23 - The grey concrete building that's just visible at the top of the image here, across the street, appears to be the only building still standing today at this location. You can see it again in the background at 7:10. He shot his video on the stairs / ramp on the side of the small hill at the top right corner, seen here.
@@cryingforbread I'm sure it was a designated evacuation site because a number of people went to it. You can hear and see these evacuees in the video shot by the man who was also one of them.

この仕事を選んだ以上は、撮り続けなければならない辛さが痛いほど感じられました。ただ、記憶は消える時がありますが、記録は永遠に残ります。次の災害への備えとして、残していかなければならない、貴重な、大事な、大切な映像だと思います。
名誉栄光ではなく、ジャーナリストとしての使命感。否、千葉さんの尊い人間性。
自分の暮らす地域が壊されていく様子をずっと見るの辛いよな
この災害の被害を受けた人達に対しては言葉も無い。
命だけは助かって良かったと思うが津波で我が家が流された人達のそれからの人生も色々大変だ。

このカメラマンのすぐ後ろにいた地元民が、同じ構図で動画を撮っていましたよね。
その動画の中にはこのカメラマンの姿もしっかり映っていました。

画質めちゃくちゃ綺麗で映画かと思った。さすがカメラマンです
復興って、本当に、何のため？その概念さえも、考えさせられる映像でした。被災者であるから、言葉に重みがあります。
地元で避難路をしっかり把握しているからこそ撮影できた映像ですよね。
こんな地震をもう二度と経験したく無い…南海トラフ地震は強い地震で無い事を心から願う！

あの日(2011.3.11)、自分は帰宅後(崩れた私物の片付けを終えてから)つけたTVで郷里(気仙沼)の津波の惨状を知った…正直(見てる間)終始無言だった…現実を受け入れがたかった。
でも、現地で(直接津波の様子を)目撃した方々は(比べ物にならないくらい)無力を感じたんだと思います…翌年(身内の)葬儀-告別式で戻った時、中学時代の同期と再会したけど(家屋等を流され、仮設暮らしと聞き)どう声をかけるべきか悩んでしまった…その事は、今もわからずにいます。

沿岸部の津波はすごいですね。車や家が流され大変な映像でした、皆さん大変でしたね。

It is the Kesennuma City board of Education. It also seemed to be an alternate evacuation site from the hill infront of it.
